Is your ticker tickety boo?

You might not believe it, but six out of ten of today’s most common diseases are caused by the way we live. So to make sure your heart is as healthy as it could be, pop into your local branch of The Co-operative Pharmacy.

We now have a Healthy Heart Check available, in selected branches, where we will measure your BMI, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol to help assess the risk of you developing cardiovascular disease in the next 10 years.

The checks, conducted in a private consultation area by one of our team, will take approximately 30 minutes. Those identified as being at risk will be given advice on how to change their routines to help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Do you measure up?

Measure your waist just under your belly button as this measurement could indicate your risk of conditions such as stroke and cardiovascular disease.

Men 37" (94cm) or more increased risk
40" (102cm) or more high risk
Women 31.5" (80cm) or more increased risk
35" (88cm) or more high risk

Exercise is part of life

Getting physical can help you become fitter and stronger, reduce stress levels and cut the risk of health problems later on. You can be active without even knowing it - even at work:

  • Boycott the lift - always take the stairs
  • Leave your desk at lunchtime - even if it's just for a 10 minute break
  • Limit your phone calls and emails - if you need to talk to someone, go and see them
