One in 10 mums involved in buggy wars, survey claims

Choosing the right pushchair for your child is not as simple as you might have thought, according to a new survey.

Research conducted by parenting website Made for Mums found that one in 10 mothers have a fight on their hands when it comes to choosing which model of buggy to purchase for their child. And for the majority (59 per cent) it's an argument they lose.

More than 1,300 mums took part in the survey and less than half said they had taken the decision of which pushchair to buy alone, despite the apparent risk of an argument. Just under one-third of mothers said they had shared the decision with their partner, while 5 per cent let their own mothers choose and 2 per cent let their mother-in-laws decide.

The majority of mums said that their top priorities when it came to finding a pushchair were that it was easy to use and didn't weight too much. Factors which were most likely to put people off included small baskets and wheels that were awkward to use.

Consumer magazine Which? advises parents to always make sure that they take any new buggy for a road test before parting with their cash.

Which? said: "Finding a pushchair that suits your size and shape is vital, so once you have found a couple of suitable all-terrain buggies...you should always visit a shop and give them a test drive."
