Easter travellers face engineering work disruption

People planning to travel by train over the Easter break look set to face disruption thanks to engineering works.

According to a report by the Press Association, almost all train companies will have some services affected over the bank holiday break from April 6 to 9, with bus replacement services brought in to transport passengers between stations.

In London, buses will replace trains on some routes out of Euston, Liverpool Street and Waterloo. Buses will also be running on a number of routes out of Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street and Crewe.

As part of the planned improvements, engineers from Network Rail will use the bank holiday to lay new track, make improvements to stations and repair bridges.

However, a joint statement released by the Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) and Network Rail has stressed that the "vast majority" of people travelling in the UK won't experience disruption. They said the number of replacement services would be down by a third on Easter 2011.

Michael Roberts, chief executive of ATOC, said: "A significant amount of time and effort goes into making sure that disruption for passengers is kept to an absolute minimum on the small number of routes affected by improvement works."
