Well, June has come and gone. But there’s still plenty of time to make the most of the summer as we head into July. There are loads of exciting events taking place across the UK – including some Co-operative Members’ Events that prove it’s well worthwhile becoming a member.

Manchester International Festival, Manchester

There’s always a real buzz in Manchester – but right now, there’s even more going in than usual thanks to the Manchester International Festival. This major cultural celebration brings together the best international talent in the world’s first festival of all new, all original work. And there really is something for everyone - from dance to theatre to art exhibitions to music to food to family events to contributions from local communities. See you there!

British Grand Prix, Silverstone, Northamptonshire
8 - 10 July
The sounds. The smells. The colour. The build-up. And the incredible release when it’s green for go. For sheer excitement, few global sporting events beat a Formula 1 Grand Prix. And the British GP is your chance to experience it right here. Even if you can’t make the event, you could host an F1 party in front of the TV as you watch the world’s best drivers battle it out at Silverstone.

Durham Miners Gala, Durham, Country Durham
9 July
This year sees the 126th Durham Miners Gala – a popular event deeply rooted in trade unionism and the mining history of the local area. That’s reflected in the colourful banners on display and traditional colliery brass bands playing throughout the day. Join the crowds and soak up the family atmosphere as the parade makes its way from Durham city centre to the Old Racecourse.

Cambridge Big Weekend, Cambridgeshire
8 - 10 July
Want to enjoy a big weekend without a big price tag? Head to Cambridge on the weekend of the 9th July for a whole host of free fun and entertainment at their annual ‘Big Weekend’ – taking place across a range of venues in the city. Featuring live music and comedy, a Children’s Fun Day, Asian Food Fair plus fireworks there’s no shortage of ways to keep the whole family occupied.

The Co-operative Village at The Great Yorkshire Show, Harrogate, North Yorkshire
12 - 14 July
The Great Yorkshire Show is one the UK’s oldest and most popular agricultural shows. And The Co-operative is proud to be playing a part. So as well as seeing the traditional exhibitions and displays – featuring livestock, food, crafts and culture and more – you’ll be able to visit our village roadshow. There you can catch up with what our family of businesses have been up to – and sample some Fairtrade food and drink into the bargain!

Get Your Hands Dirty – Practical Action for Sustainable Living, Sheffield, South Yorkshire

This day-long free event showcases The Co-operative Group’s sustainability agenda. But it’s not all theory! Discover practical ways to set up a city farm or community garden. See a bee keeper working and hear about Plan Bee. Find out how to build a bug hotel, organic fertiliser factory and a willow structure. Or even just pick up seeds to try back home.

In today’s Britain, young people are increasingly getting a bad press. At The Co-operative we think it’s time to challenge the negative stereotypes young people are unfairly subjected to. That’s where Truth About Youth comes in. Featuring performances, exhibitions and artwork, it gives young people the chance to tell their own story and build a better understanding of their lives.
The next event is Bussin' It, performed on a converted bus in Windrush Square, Brixton, followed by the premiere of the Oval House's Truth about Youth film in the Ritzy Cinema.

Bugsy Malone – Summer Youth Project, Belfast
28 - 31 July
See the musical featuring pint-sized Chicago gangsters and their molls brought to life by young theatrical talent in Belfast. Show your support for their efforts – and take in the beautiful surroundings of the Grand Opera House in Belfast while you’re at it. There’s a 10% discount for Co-operative members.

Hull Veterans Event, Hull, North Yorkshire
30 July
Held in East Park, the annual Veterans Event is a celebration of the work of the armed forces in the past and present. This free event is open to all and features historical artefacts from previous conflicts. It also raises funds for Help For Heroes. So why not show your support for these brave individuals?
