As we head into February, there are plenty of great events taking place across the UK to distract you. From a great ways to get all loved up for Valentine’s Day to some brilliant music events, we’ve put together some cracking suggestions for your February ‘to do list’.


Take to the ice! The Eden Project, Cornwall

Until 26th February, £5

Take a trip to the world-famous Eden Project in February and you’ll discover something different for winter – a magical ice rink. Open to all, with dedicated lessons and instruction sessions for both kids and adults, the rink is a great added extra to this already brilliant eco-friendly visitor attraction. But if you fancy taking to the ice, get your skates on and book ahead – it can get busy.

St Valentines Day at Aberglasney Gardens, Carmarthenshire, Wales

14th February (and throughout the rest of the UK too!)

As Cupid digs out his bow and arrow for Valentine’s Day, it’s time to consider your options. A romantic dinner? A trip to flicks? A cosy evening in? Perhaps even a special proposal (you never know!). All tried and tested options. But what about something a little different this year? Like an inspiring walk around the beautiful Aberglasney Gardens in Wales – one of the UK’s finest garden walks. The perfect backdrop to romantic moments and sweet nothings!

International Festival of Country Music, Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland

29th February

If you’re a fan of the stars and sounds of country music, you’re in for a treat at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena. On leap year day, it plays host to the very best in country and western, roots and bluegrass from across the world – with a stellar line-up including global superstar Reba McEntire. It’s an all-day event and family friendly too. But it’s bound to be a big draw. So book early.

Snails, Whales and Sea Tales, Durham Cathedral Education Centre

13th – 17th February

With half-term on the horizon, keeping the kids busy (and giving yourself a chance for breather) is a must. Why not explore the new ‘Seaside Space’ at the Durham Cathedral Education Centre? For kids there’s plenty of inspiring maritime tales to be told plus a chance to build their own seaside creation. For Mums and Dads there’s the beautiful surroundings of the city of Durham, its magnificent cathedral and bustling shopping streets. So everybody’s happy.

Scottish Fairtrade Benefit Comedy Night, The Stand Comedy Club, Glasgow, Scotland

27th January, £5 (there are a limited number of free tickets available for Co-operative members)

Want a laugh with a difference? Head down to The Stand in Glasgow at the end of February for The Scottish Fairtrade Comedy Night – an evening of quality stand-up in aid of a great cause (in association with the Fairtrade Forum). There’s an impressive line-up on the night including the up and coming Eleanor Morton (tipped for the top) plus Fringe regulars Phil Differ, Bruce Morton and compere Susan Morrison. But make sure you book ahead.

Half Term Family Fun Trail, Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire

The Tudor splendour of Kenilworth Castle is one of England’s finest heritage sites – once home to the Elizabeth I’s beau Robert Dudley. These days the castle, ruins, grounds and gardens play host to a wide range of events for all the family. And this half-term there’s a terrific family fun trail to keep the kids occupied as they hunt for historic clues hidden in and around the estate. There are prizes to be won too! Brighton Half Marathon and Youth Races, Brighton

19th February

Fancy getting your trainers on and giving yourself a good workout and helping a charity in the process? Try the Brighton Half Marathon, one of the longest established and most popular sea front marathons in the UK. No wonder! With beautiful Brighton promenade as your course, it’s got to be one of the most visually stunning road races too. There are still places available for charity runners, youth racers or volunteers on the day. But they’ll go fast! So act now.

Pancake Day Races in London, Brick Lane, London

21st February

Shrove Tuesday has become a great British tradition. A chance for everyone to practise their pancake making/flipping/racing skills! If you really want to go for it why not take part in the Great Spitalfields Pancake Race at the Dray Walk Gallery in London. Beat off the opposition and you could walk away with the now legendary Frying Pan Trophy!

Giving disadvantaged children a chance in life is a vitally important cause – and the work Barnardo’s does makes a big difference. There’s nothing like curling up with a good book. But to be honest, it’s not always easy to find the time. Set a day aside on 4th February – National Libraries Day – when there’ll be events taking place in community libraries across the UK. At Carlisle Library you can hear prize-winning author Paul Wilson talk about his latest novel, The Visiting Angel.

12th February

We’re all trying to eat a little healthier these days. Farmers’ markets are a great way to do it. Local produce from around your area – offered up when it’s at its freshest and its tastiest! One such market taking place in February is the Ramsbottom Farmers’ Market just outside Manchester. You’ll find the finest fayre from producers across the North West. Pop along to make the most of it!

I love looking at your various receipies,etc but when I see what the price of a wine(lime tree) £4.99 down to £4.25 I am dissapointed to find our local is not, AB35 in Braemar.
