As we enter into Autumn, there’s nothing quite like striding out into your local countryside and combining a healthy walk with a hearty lunch or a drink at a friendly pub.
Read on for some of our favourite pub walks across England, and when you’ve seen what we’ve got to say, why not tell us about your favourites?
Cartford Country Inn and Hotel, Little Ecclestone, Lancashire
Distance: 4 miles
Level: Easy, but with some stiles
Why we love it: This easy walk is a gentle way to spend an hour and a half on a sunny day, offering a really scenic stroll along the banks of the River Wyre. The pub itself plays host to its own brewery which produces a selection of specialist beers and ales for thirsty walkers.

Drift Inn, Beaulieu, New Forest, Hampshire
Distance: 3.5 miles
Level: Easy
Why we love it: A simply great walk thanks to the beautiful surroundings of the New Forest, and great for those looking for a relaxing rather than strenuous walk that takes in some of England’s lush green space. The pub has been recently refurbished and it offers a great choice of delicious food and ales.

Rose and Crown, Stonehouse, Gloucestershire
Distance: 3.5 miles
Level: Easy to moderate
Why we love it: There are a few steep slopes on this beautiful route through National Trust land, so you’ll find it enjoyable working up a sweat, a thirst and an appetite before you reach the picturesque pub at the end of it all. The Rose and Crown is featured in The Good Pub Guide thanks to its friendly atmosphere, great food that’s served all day and an enormous beer garden to host all the pub walkers!
The Stone House Inn, Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Distance: 5.5 miles
Level: Easy to moderate, with some stiles and a few steep hills
Why we love it: A great opportunity to take in the views of the Thruscross Reservoir, on a walk that takes an average of two and a half hours to complete. Make a short detour to the Stone House Inn for a seat by the open log fire and the option of afternoon tea, or something a little stronger!

Woodman Inn, Hatfield, Hertfordshire
Distance: 3.2 miles
Level: Moderate, with some stiles, steep hills and kissing gates
Why we love it: It is a rambler’s dream thanks to the route through no less than five woods! Navigate your way down pretty, winding country lanes and stop off for a bacon sandwich or a pint of finest at the Woodman Inn, a regular entry into the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide.
