Where to holiday in the UK

UK holidays

It's never been a better time to take your holiday in the UK. With a whole host of beautiful locations to choose from and some great deals on offer, your main problem will be deciding where to go.

The British Isles are home to some of the most wonderful countryside, coasts and cities in the world – all perfect choices for a holiday. Why not visit one of these stunning locations?

Edinburgh

Scotland's capital is the seventh-largest city in the UK and it has something for everyone. A rugged Firth of Forth setting and medieval and Georgian architecture make it very picturesque and it boasts an enchanting castle that dominates the skyline.

Superbreak has some great deals on city-centre hotels, such as the Frederick House Hotel, a welcoming and traditional choice where guests can enjoy breakfast in the superb Rick's Restaurant, opposite the hotel. Or there's the award-winning stylish 139-room Mercure Point Hotel, located in the shadow of the castle and offering easy access to the historic old town.

The Highlands

For a get-away-from-it-all holiday, why not head to Scotland's west coast? The region is renowned for its spectacular pine forests, impressive mountains and beautiful lochs. Stay at the Loch Fyne Hotel & Spain Inveraray and you'll be able to combine pampering with exploring gorgeous surroundings. Or if you prefer a coastal resort head for Oban, the area's most popular resort, where the recently restored Columba Hotel on the seafront offers spacious accommodation and good food.

The Cotswolds

Holiday spots don't come much more scenic than this, with its rolling countryside and pretty towns and villages. Picturesque Painswick is well worth a trip. Browse the shops and galleries, visit the celebrated Rococo Gardens and stay at Cardynham House, a former 16th-century wool merchant's home. Bourton-on-the-Water is another stunning Cotswold village where you can stay at four-star Lansdowne Villa Guest House. Here you'll still be handy for beautiful, buzzing Cheltenham as well as Bath and historic Blenheim Palace.

South Devon

If you'd like a seaside break, there are some great summer deals to be had on this pretty coast. Both Paignton and Torquay are popular destinations and you'll find plenty of good-value places to stay – try the Wilsbrook Guest House or Beverley Hotel in Torquay or the Braedene Guest House in Paignton for well priced three-star accommodation.

North and South Wales

Dominated by the Great Orme, Llandudno is a huge limestone headland at the end of the peninsula, a popular seaside resort. Despite its name, the town's Grand Hotel is good value and has great views across the bay. Or if you feel like splashing out, try the elegant St George's Hotel which offers sea views and luxury accommodation. For exploring Snowdonia and the surrounding areas of outstanding beauty, the Ruthin Castle Hotel with its award-winning restaurant is ideal.

The South Wales coast boasts some of Britain's best beaches, and the Pembrokeshire coastline is truly spectacular. For a classical yet modern feel, stay at the Lamphey Court Hotel & Spa, a Georgian mansion with spacious grounds. It's handily situated if you want to walk the coastal paths – much of the coastline is protected by the National Trust. You can also enjoy the hotel's fantastic facilities, including an indoor pool, sauna, gym and tennis courts.
