Watch your Waste
make the most of your food
Around a third of all the food we buy ends up been thrown in the bin and most of it could have been eaten. Reducing food waste is a major issue with good food going to waste costing the average family almost £500 per year without taking into account the serious environmental implications.
As a responsible retailer The Co-operative Food Group attempts to reduce waste every working day and to help them address this issue and tackle environmental waste Membership has launched its own Watch Your Waste campaign which intends to highlight the serious implications of food waste to members. To 'kick start' the campaign membership is holding 45 Watch Your Waste events this autumn.
Watch your Waste events
Each event will focus on food planning and management and feature an educational cookery demonstration when one of four The Co-operative chefs will illustrate how individuals and families can be more imaginative in the kitchen by making the most of food which might ordinarily be thrown away. There will be advice on food preparation and management as well as cooking tips and hints and Home Composting Advisors from WRAP.
The Co-operative chefs
In order to reduce the mountains of household waste created in households each and everyday all our Watch Your Waste events will all feature a Co-operative chef. In addition to providing tips on food management the chefs will also show people how they can best use food which might ordinarily end up as landfill.
