Area Committees

A Co-operative member speaking at an Area Committee meeting

Our Area Committees (and the Northern Ireland Members' Council) are the eyes and ears of The Co-operative Group, working on the ground to make sure we’re doing all we can for our members. Each Area Committee normally has around 10 to 12 members, and they usually serve for 3 year terms. Here’s what they do:

  • Help with The Co-operative Group’s events for members and the community
  • Discuss our trading operations with management from various businesses
  • Get involved with community groups and let people know how The Co-operative Group could help them
  • Award Community Fund grants to community groups that deserve our help
  • Raise any issues with the Regional Board

It’s fun and really rewarding too. If you’d like to play a part, you can stand for election to a committee after you’ve been a member of The Co-operative Group for a year.
