I have been an active member of the cooperative since the age of 16 and was elected to the Manchester Area in 2009.  As a committee member I was elected to be the regional representative on the Co-operative Foundation. I also serve on the Regional Values and Principles Committee and hold the position of chair.  

Working in the voluntary and community sector I have vast experience of supporting and empowering both groups and individuals to play a part in their local communities. The direction of the Co-operative is determined by its members and I feel we should actively encourage as diverse and as active a membership as possible so the Co-operative reflects the communities we serve.

The Co-operative difference lies in its values and principles. It is essential that we continue to take the lead for setting the bar for ethical trading and food standards and this is as crucial as ever during these economically difficult times. It is also important we maintain the Community Grants Scheme to enhance our involvement within the local voluntary and community sector. 

I would relish the opportunity to continue to play my part in enabling the Co-operative to make a difference by serving as your representative to the Area Committee for a second term.
