Our Members must be at the heart of our cooperative. I have had the privilege of serving on the Merseyside Area Committee since 2009 and I have always put the interests of our Members at the forefront.
I helped organise successful Members’ events in Runcorn, Wirral, Liverpool, and Southport. We must make more use of the talents of our Members to ensure that our family of businesses continues to be run in an ethical, open, honest and environmentally sustainable way.
Our businesses face many challenges. With the crisis in capitalism, we are well-placed to take advantage of our reputation as a trustworthy alternative. As a Britannia, Food, Travel, Pharmacy and Bank customer, I know the importance of an ethical approach to trading. My vision for the future is to see The Co-operative become the most admired business in the world.
As a member of the Regional Board, I am a longstanding advocate for keener prices for our Members. I recognise that our Food stores are still too expensive and I will continue to demand better-value pricing for our customers.
The co-operative difference lies in our values and principles. It matters how our profits are made and what we do with them. If we stick to our values we will grow, thrive and prosper even during these difficult economic times.
