Elections to the Group Board, the highest tier of the Co-operative Group's democracy took place at the end of May following the recent election of members of the Group's 46 area committees, the Northern Ireland Members' Council, and the seven regional boards.
With effect from June 2009 the Group Board now consists of 20 members listed below. Fifteen were elected by and from the Group's regions and five were elected by and from the Group's Corporate Members, ie, independent co-operative societies which are members of the Group.
Votes for the regional seats were cast by individual area committee members within each region and each society in membership of the Group was entitled to participate in the ballot for the Corporate Member seats.

At the first meeting of the Group Board, the election of Group Chairs and Deputy Chairs took place. Len Wardle was elected as Group Chair and Stephen Watts and Allan Smith were elected as Deputy Chairs.
