Share of the profits
As a member of The Co-operative Group, you can earn points when you shop with us. The value of a point is linked to the profit our business makes. After recording the biggest loss in our history last year, we made a small profit in the first half of 2014. We are using that money to support our rebuild plan. By investing money in this way, we are improving our Food stores, our Insurance business, our Funeral homes, our online Electrical business and our Legal services. This much needed investment means we will not be making a dividend payment to our members at this time, as it is linked to the profit we made in the first half of the year.
Whilst this is disappointing news we are now on the way to rebuilding the Co-op. Our elected members have approved radical changes to our governance structure, and introduced one member one vote – so in future you will have a real say in how the business you own is run.
You can find out more about the The Co-operative Group here. If you have any questions about your payment, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0800 023 4708
There are lots of places you can earn points with The Co-operative Group. From our high street businesses, like The Co-operative Food, or online with The Co-operative Electrical. Choose The Co-operative each time you shop.
Twice a year we convert your points into a cash value in June and November. The value of a point is linked to the profits made by The Co-operative Group.*
- The payout in November is an interim payment. These points are calculated from what you spend with us from January through till June.
- The following June we'll then work out our total profit, do the final sums and work out the value of a point. Your points at this point are calculated from the previous year, January to December. If the value of a point in June is worth more than that of November, we will make up the difference.
How much does it cost to become a member?
£1 is deducted from your first share of the profits payment and held in a share account. If you choose to cancel your membership, your £1 is returned or donated to The Co-operative Community Investment Foundation (registered in England and Wales; charity number 1093028).
Points to Note
*The share of the profits is paid from distributable profits of Co-operative Group Limited and is approved by our members. The value of a membership point awarded for your trade with us may vary each year. If the Group does not declare a profit, the points you earn may not be given a value.
