your share of the profits

The Co-operative Group is a business democratically run by members, each of whom has an equal right to a say in how the business is run and how we achieve our social goals.

Members are rewarded with a share of our profits twice a year based on the amount we have made in profits, compounded with how much they have spent with our unique family of businesses; the more they spend, the higher the share will be.

pounds for points

In most cases you receive one point for each pound you spend. You can earn points at our high street businesses where you see our bee symbol, as well as with The Co-operative Bank, internet bank smile and Co-operative Insurance. When we know how much profit we have made, we will change your points into pounds and pence. You will receive your share twice a year: in June and November; in November our members receive an interim payment which values at a point equating to 1p for trading in the first half of the year.

The actual amount you receive in June depends on our profitability and the frequency of the share of the profits each year. For instance in June 2009 each point was worth 2p. For more information read the full terms and conditions.

sharing your share

If you like you can donate some of your profit share to our Community Fund, our charity that helps local communities throughout the UK. In the last year our members have donated over £1 million to thousands of community groups to help them with specific projects.

Most members automatically donate either the odd pence left over from each payout, or a percentage or all of their share. This way they are helping local communities every time they spend with us.

If you are a tax payer you can increase the amount the Community Fund receives through Gift Aid. This means the Government adds an extra 28p for every pound you donate. Simply check the Gift Aid box when you join, or change it in Manage your profit account in the members' area.
