Help pollinators in your garden

There are many things that you can do in your garden or on your patio, balcony or windowsill to help pollinators. From planting flowers that provide food, to creating habitats, there are many small actions you can take that will make a real difference to pollinators.

Create habitats for pollinators

Create habitats for pollinators
We've teamed up with Crocus to arrange an exclusive 25% off a bee box for Co-operative Members and Plan Bee supporters.

Keep plants well watered

Keeping plants well watered helps them produce more nectar for pollinators.

When watering plants on hot days, it is best to water them in the evening or very early morning when the sun is not too hot. Watering plants during midday can cause their leaves to wilt as the water evaporates from their surface and doesn’t reach the roots of the plant.

Be less tidy!

Apply for a grant
Mow your grass less often to allow flowers such as Daises and Clover to grow through.

Leave fallen leaves to provide a place for caterpillars and moths to hide from predators.

Leave seed heads on flowers during the autumn and winter rather than cutting them back to provide nesting habitat for insects.

Provide water

Help pollinators in your garden
Provide water for pollinators to drink – this can be as simple as a shallow-edged dish of water.

Make sure you add some pebbles to help them climb out.

Protect swarms

Watch the Vanishing of the Bees film or HONEY play
Bees generally swarm when they are looking for a new home.

If you see a swarm of bees, contact your local beekeeping association who will collect the swarm and give them a new home.
