Co-op Funeralcare colleague awarded Life Saving Intervention Award
25 February 2019
The bravery of Co-op Funeralcare colleague Shane Kybett has been acknowledged by the Sussex Police force after he heroically saved the lives of two people.
Shane was selected by the Divisional Commander to receive the Life Saving Intervention Award at this year’s Brighton and Hove Divisional Police Awards.
He was nominated for the award after his fearless actions saved the lives of two women in the space of 24 hours.
Whilst out patrolling the beach as part of his second job as a Response Security Worker, Shane prevented a woman from walking into the sea and remained with her until the police and ambulance service arrived.
On the same evening, Shane came across a second women who had stopped breathing. He managed to resuscitate her before the emergency services arrived, ultimately saving her life.
Due to Shane’s quick thinking and the action he took, he was able to prevent what could have potentially been two fatal incidents.
Shane was presented with his award at the British Airways i360 Tower by divisional Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell.
Shane Kybett, Funeral Service Crew at Co-op Funeralcare commented:
“I am truly touched and honoured to have been nominated for such a meaningful award. In my eyes, I was just doing what anyone else would have done in the same situation.”
Shane was among police officers, volunteers and members of the public who received awards at the ceremony for their courage, bravery, exceptional investigative skills and dedication to providing a public service in the city.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell said:
“The awards were a chance to see the breadth of policing and active citizenship across the city and recognise those people, such as Shane, who have gone above and beyond what is expected. It is the tireless and selfless efforts of those who have been recognised that keeps our communities in Brighton and Hove safe and secures the trust and confidence of the public."
