Co-op responds to proposed changes to the divorce law

06 February 2020

Tracey Moloney, Head of Family Law at the Co-op said:

“Divorce isn’t something to enter into lightly, but once someone in a relationship or both parties have made that decision, it’s important the transition is as quick as possible to ensure the emotional stress for all involved and financial implications are kept to a minimum.

"Currently couples that decide to divorce cannot just split, they must agree to mutual consent forcing them to remain married for at least two years. Alternatively, one must blame the other, which is usually the reason so many divorces which start off amicable end up toxic.”
