Skills and experience
As a life-long co-operator my fervent belief is that co-operation is the fairest, most ethical way of doing business. I aim to represent the best interests of members, whilst championing The Co-op’s Values and Principles, business success, and enhancing our commitment to serve our communities. If reelected I will continue to strive for the benefit of our members and staff, both locally and nationally, and do my utmost to reflect your views and aspirations. barbara@cariadcards.co.uk
Additional Information
My special interests include food provenance and animal welfare, and I frequently promote these issues at Council meetings. As a long-standing supporter of Greenpeace, I am also very concerned with environmental matters, and will press for The Co-op to step up its proposals for recyclable material in all its packaging. I support all efforts to reduce food waste, through the use of Food Banks, and better stocking mechanisms in our Stores. I believe our Stores should be welcoming environments for all our members and customers, with a good range of foods and other merchandise to suit all budgets and requirements. I am proud that the Co-op continues to campaign on social issues, as did our founders; this, and adherence to our values and principles, distinguish us from our retail competitors. Relevant experience: Served on the Co-operative North Wales Area Committee and the Regional Values and Principles Committee and more recently on the Food Policy Working Group. Member of the Llandudno Branch of the former Guild of Co-operators. I have been a school governor of a primary school, and a special needs school. Work experience: I lived abroad for a number of years and have undertaken a variety of jobs, both overseas and at home, including Lecturer in Music, medical secretary and nursery school teacher. I currently work part-time in graphic design and printing.
Qualifications: BMus:1 Hons (2006); LRAM I have successfully undertaken all required Co-operative College training modules. In addition to trading with The Group, I am also a customer of Co-operative Energy, the Co-operative Bank and The Phone Co-op. I live on the Isle of Anglesey and speak Welsh. Thank you for your consideration…. Diolch yn fawr.
