Barriers to belonging (loneliness research)

An exploration of loneliness among people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.

About the research

To mark Loneliness Awareness Week 2019, we published ‘Barriers to Belonging’, which explores the experiences of loneliness amongst Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

This is an area previously under explored and builds upon our Trapped in a Bubble report.

The report examines barriers to connections for BAME communities, explores real life experiences and calls for action. The research has been produced in collaboration with Centre for Loneliness Studies at the University of Sheffield and the Runnymede Trust.

What we’re doing

Our colleagues and members have raised millions to fund new British Red Cross services to tackle loneliness and we are changing how our business works across the UK to support those who are experiencing loneliness.
