Hate divides communities. Co-operation builds them.

We’re campaigning to put co-ops at the heart of building peace. Add your voice by signing the petition.

In the UN Year of Co-operation, we think the UK Government should commit to raising the importance of co-operatives with world leaders and show leadership by doubling the proportion of funding allocated to co-operative development as part of the UK's International Development budget.

Brewed in Solidarity: Sun & Stone Lager

We believe trade can be a powerful tool for peace in areas of conflict and post conflict. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Brewgooder and Taybeh Brewery to bring you Sun & Stone Lager; a beer brewed in solidarity, and rooted in resilience.

Taybeh is Palestine’s first microbrewery, based in the West Bank. Because of the occupation, they face daily challenges from restricted movement and water shortages to trade barriers that make it impossible to export their beer. But they keep going, brewing with pride and purpose.

To help share their story, we’ve worked with Brewgooder to brew Sun & Stone Lager here in the UK, using Taybeh’s original recipe. It’s named after the region’s warm climate and limestone terrain and it’s a symbol of what’s possible when communities come together.

100% of proceeds from this beer support communities across Palestine and Middle East, including Taybeh and to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)*, helping provide vital humanitarian support across the region.

You can support by picking up a can in selected Co-op stores from 10th September 2025, available for 9 weeks.

*Proceeds will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee Middle East Appeal. Reg. Charity No. 1062638. Minimum 20k donation.

For more than 100 years, co-operatives have been great advocates for and builders of peace and at a time when the world and our communities at home are becoming more divided places, never has co-operation been need more.

Co-operatives build peace because they bring people together pooling their talents and assets around a common goal. Co-operation is – to quote William Maxwell, President of the International Co-operative Alliance in 1913 – the antithesis of conflict.

From Guatemala to Rwanda, we have seen co-operation bring people together because while hate divides communities, co-operation truly does bring them together.

Wahat Al Salam Neve Shalom in Israel

The co-operative-inspired village of Wahat Al Salam Neve Shalom in Israel is one of the most powerful examples of that.

It is a place where Israelis and Palestinians choose to live together in peace, demonstrating how co-operation can build understanding, trust and peace in the most difficult of circumstances.

This film tells the story of Wahat Al Salam Neve Shalom and that when people come together around a common goal, when they co-operate then peace is possible.

In today’s world we should all remember that – peace is possible
