Skills and experience

I believe I can bring the fresh perspective the Council needs to better represent our members. I work as a Regulatory Economist and I’m a lifelong co-operator. Previously as a Student Union Trustee I represented 30,000 members and provided challenge and oversight. I will stand up for you and ensure the Board embodies our Values and Principles. Co-operatives offer an ambitious economic alternative and the Group must champion and advance our way of doing business.

Additional information

I believe I can bring the fresh perspective the National Members’ Council needs to be more representative of our diverse membership in the West Midlands.

I have a record of representing members and providing challenge. I previously served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Birmingham’s Student Union, where I represented over 30,000 members, made commercial decisions, sat on the audit and risk committee, and provided challenge, scrutiny and oversight to the management.

In my day job, I am a Regulatory Economist in Birmingham, conducting analysis and developing policy for the benefit of customers and society. Through this role I am effective at observing trends, making decisions, working with others and influencing change.

I’m a lifelong co-operator – I’ve been a member of the Co-op Group for six years, shopping in our Food, Electrical and Insurance businesses. I’ve been a member of Midcounties Co-operative via Co-operative Energy for three years. And I remain a customer of the Co-operative Bank despite everything. I also support smaller co-ops, building societies and credit unions in our region.

As your Council Member I will stand up for you and make sure the Board embodies our values and principles in the commercial and strategic decisions it makes.

I believe co-operatives offer an ambitious economic alternative to the status quo. Returning to the radicalism of our roots, I believe the Group should be a campaigning as well as a commercial co-op. The Group needs to champion and advance our way of doing business.

I hope I can earn your vote. If elected I want to work with our Member Pioneers to reach out to members in the community, and I will make myself available to represent members’ views. Please get in touch if you have any questions – you can email me at jeevanjones@outlook.com or tweet @jeevanjones.
