Jo Cox Commission
The Jo Cox Commission, of which we are a member, has published its ‘Call to Action’ report which calls on the government to take clear action and makes new recommendations for tackling loneliness across all ages.
The key calls we’re making include; a Minister with designated responsibility for loneliness, a UK wide strategy for tackling loneliness across all ages, and a national indicator to be introduced that tracks loneliness across all ages rather than just in later life.
To take this forward, we’re setting up a new national Loneliness Action Group which will be chaired jointly by the Co-op and the British Red Cross. The Loneliness Action Group will meet quarterly throughout 2018 and will ensure there is an on-going legacy for the work of the Jo Cox Commission. It will act as a platform for national organisations tackling loneliness across all ages to share information, learning and best practice.
We want to see more national businesses and charities working to tackle loneliness. If you are a national business or charity who is interested in joining us, you can get in touch by emailing Lonelinessaction@redcross.org.uk.
We will also be supporting a new All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on loneliness, bringing together politicians from all parties to continue on the legacy of the Jo Cox Commission.
