Clare picks up top transport award for going the extra mile to inspire others
20 June 2018
Recognised as an inspirational role model in the UK’s transport and logistics industry, Co-op’s Birtley-based National Development Manager, Clare Maclauchlan, has picked up a top national award for her work to improve safety, engage young people, and challenge perceptions of the transport industry.
Clare, 30, from Gosforth, who is based at the Co-op’s Birtley Distribution Centre, was praised by judges in the “Warehousing - Above and Beyond” category for her focus on improving safety and for visiting schools and universities to raise awareness of career opportunities within logistics – helping to “inspire and engage the next generation of much-needed talent.”
Clare was awarded the FTA Everywoman in Transport and Logistics Award at a special ceremony held at the Marriott London Grosvenor Square Hotel last week (Thursday, 14, June).
The awards, now in its 11th year, celebrates exceptional women who work to transform transport and logistics in the UK and change the perception of the industry as a whole, with Clare’s work supporting the Co-op’s ambition to encourage more females to explore its career opportunities in logistics and transport.
Maxine Benson MBE, co-founder of everywoman, comments: “This year’s winners represent those making a real difference to transport and logistics - not only are they making their own contributions to the industry, but they are mentoring others to do the same. As everywoman ambassadors, they will go on to inspire the next generation.”
Andy Perry, Co-op Logistics Director, said: “We are delighted for Clare, the award and recognition is thoroughly deserved. The judges noted how Clare truly does go above and beyond as she strives to raise the profile of career opportunities in the sector, shows dedication to improving safety, and challenges gender perceptions - Clare really is a role model for women looking to pursue a career in this field.”
Clare added: “I am absolutely thrilled by the award, it hasn’t sunk in yet. It is not an exaggeration to say that the supply chain and logistic industry is a passion. It was a career that I found by chance, I feel incredibly lucky, and so to have the opportunity to open the eyes of young people to some of the often over-looked career opportunities available within the sector is incredibly rewarding.”
