Co-op celebrates 10 years of Legal Services

05 August 2016

Bristol-based Co-op Legal Services is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Now supporting calls from over 100,000 customers and members each year, Co-op Legal Services first launched in July 2006 and now offers a range consumer legal services including will writing, probate and conveyancing.

Remaining a key part of the Co-op’s family of businesses, since launch the business has further developed the way in which it offers legal services, also introducing other areas such as family and employment law.

In 2012 it became the first major UK consumer business to be granted alternative business structure (ABS) status under the new Legal Services Act.  Earlier this year, Co-op also acquired Collective Legal Solutions as part of a focus on expanding into face-to-face legal advice and support into communities across the UK.

The 10th anniversary was marked by many of Co-op Legal Services 300 colleagues, who joined celebrations Co-op’s offices at Aztec West. This included a presentation by Managing Director Matt Howells to those colleagues who have been with the business since its launch in 2006.

The milestone follows the announcement that Co-op is to launch a new range of benefits for members and their communities this autumn, with the business also underway in a re-brand programme to return to its iconic clover-leaf logo across the UK. Following this announcement at the Co-op’s AGM in May, new branding is already in place at Co-op’s Legal Services offices in Bristol, as one of the first sites to adopt the new look.

Managing Director for Co-op Legal Services, Matt Howells, commented:

“This is a fantastic milestone for Legal Services and comes at a key moment for the Co-op. The business’ broader rebuild and membership plans provide a great platform for us to further develop our services for the future. As we continue to support the rebuild of Co-op, we remain focused on making quality legal services both accessible and transparent, whether that be over the phone, online, or face-to-face.”

Paul Burgess , Legal Administrator for Co-op Legal Services, said:

“I started with the Co-op in  August 2006. I’ve never felt the need to move on because I’m surrounded by a great bunch of colleagues and the work has always remained challenging and interesting. I’m particularly proud of the work Co-op is doing to connect local communities. It was such a good feeling to be able to celebrate this anniversary, and the day was full of high spirits and great hopes for the future.”
