Co-op colleagues from Penmaenmawr and Deganwy store carried out a ‘clean sweep’ of local beaches to help ‘turn the tide’ on unsightly litter.

Eleven colleagues from local Co-op stores took part in two litter picks along stretches of Penmaenmawr and Deganwy beaches, with the activity arranged in support of ‘the great big green week’ – which celebrates community action to tackle climate change and protect nature.

The team collected and removed 10 bags of litter from beaches, including discarded odd socks; wipes; fishing wire, bottles and bags.

Joanne Jones, Co-op Store Manager – who helped to organise the activity, said: “Co-op is committed to making a difference in its local communities, and litter is not only unsightly, but is harmful to our wildlife and natural environment too. We were able to remove several sacks of litter from our beautiful beaches – it is great what you can achieve when you work together. It was not only an enjoyable day, but we were also able to improve the appearance locally for the benefit of visitors to the area and, the whole community.”
