To support the launch of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Myanmar Earthquake Appeal, Co-op has donated £100,000 to help deliver urgent humanitarian aid to communities devastated by the crisis.

DEC Myanmar

A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has struck Myanmar, leaving hundreds of people missing and many more without access to shelter, clean water, food or medical care. With the country already experiencing a severe humanitarian emergency, this disaster has deepened the need for immediate support.

Shirine Khoury-Haq, Group CEO, Co-op:

“We’re deeply saddened by the devastation caused by the earthquake in Myanmar. With communities already facing significant hardship, this disaster has left many without access to the most basic essentials.

“Our members, customers and colleagues always respond with compassion when it’s needed most. We’re proud to support the DEC Myanmar Earthquake Appeal and stand alongside the wider co-operative movement to help deliver life-saving aid to those in urgent need.”

As with previous international crises, Co-op is working in partnership with the DEC to ensure support reaches those who need it most. DEC charities are already on the ground in affected areas, delivering essential emergency relief and working to reach remote communities.

Co-op members, customers and colleagues can support the appeal in the following ways:
