Co-op Insurance welcomes learner driver motorway driving law change
04 June 2018
Steve Kerrigan, Head of Young Driver Insurance at the Co-op, said:
“We welcome today’s law change which will see thousands of historically unprepared drivers, be better equipped to drive on the fastest roads in the UK.
“Motorway driving can be one of the most daunting things a new driver does and the most catastrophic should anything go wrong.
“Research we’ve conducted has found that 15% of young drivers who have had an accident have been on the motorway when this has happened – lack of experience simply must play a key role in this.
“Whilst voluntary, we are positive that the learner drivers who do decide to take motorway lessons will benefit and roads will become safer.
“It’s extremely important for road safety that anyone who passes their driving test, regardless of age, feels comfortable and equipped to drive on the roads unsupervised as newly-qualified drivers are facing busier road conditions than any other generation.”
