Co-op has launched in-app Member prices for its Member-owners who are Uber Eats users.

The move enables Co-op's five million Member-owners to benefit and save money on around 250 products when they order their groceries and everyday essentials through the Uber Eats app - it is a first for a UK delivery platform.

Co-op

The partnership between Uber Eats and Co-op launched in August 2022, and around 1,000 Co-op stores across the country are available for online home delivery of groceries through the platform. Co-op’s online approach is based on quick-convenience, with orders picked fresh in the local store, and delivered quickly and conveniently in the community.

In January, Co-op launched a significant new round of member prices within its Food business which saw a further 117 everyday low prices including, for the first time, branded goods. This followed the biggest ever investment in convenience pricing last year, where Member prices were introduced on 175 everyday essential products, and takes the total investment in prices to £100m. Co-op also revealed its ambitions to substantially increase the number of its member-owners from 5 million to 8 million by 2030.

Chris Conway, Co-op’s eCommerce Director, said: “Growing and innovating our online channels is a fundamental part of our approach, and our Member-owners are at the heart of our business. Co-op Membership is a different way of doing business, and by working with Uber Eats in this way we can provide greater benefits to those who own our business, our Member-owners, with savings across an extensive range and choice of everyday essentials and groceries ordered through Uber Eats.”

Alexander Troughton, Director of Grocery and Retail at Uber Eats UK said: “In a first for third party delivery apps nationwide, offering Co-op’s Member-prices in-app is a big win for Co-op’s Member-owners and we are delighted to be leading the industry alongside Co-op. We want to offer the best value and experience for merchants and customers and we’ll continue to innovate to do exactly that.”

To benefit from the savings, Co-op Members need to input their valid Membership number when they check-out on the Uber Eats app. The process to connect an Uber Eats account and a Co-op Membership account takes two working days, after which Member pricing will become accessible.

Co-op has expanded its online offer at pace, through both its own online shop – shop.coop.co.uk – and with partners, Amazon; Deliveroo; Just Eat; Uber Eats and, autonomous home delivery of groceries by robot with Starship Technologies.
