10 February 2023
Co-op launches a new-look, larger, food store today (Friday, 10 February) with an increased range and choice to serve the Gourock community, conveniently.
The convenience retailer relocates to its new 4,300 sq ft store in Cardwell Road, Gourock, with the new store larger than Co-op’s two former sites in the town combined.
The new Cardwell Road store will support 25 local jobs - including John McInulty who marks 50 years working for Co-op next year and will transfer from the former Shore Street store. The new location enables Co-op to enhance and improve the range and choice of products and services for its Members and customers, and will open between 6am-10pm daily.
Co-op’s new store will include customer car parking with an electric vehicle charging space; a free ATM to provide access to cash in the town, an in-store bakery, hot food, Rollover hot dogs and, Costa coffee dispenser. This sits alongside an increased focus on fresh, healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; Fairtrade products, chilled beers and award winning wines; ready meals and pizzas and, free-from; vegan and plant-based products – including Co-op’s exclusive vegan range, GRO.
Convenient parcel collection is available through Amazon Lockers, the Click and Collect of groceries is available through Co-op’s own online shop - shop.coop.co.uk and, quick and easy home delivery is available through Deliveroo.
A funding boost is provided locally through Co-op’s Membership programme. Membership of Co-op unlocks additional value through in-store offers and deals. In addition, Members are rewarded with 2p in every pound they spend on Co-op branded products which is added to their own personal Membership account balance, and Co-op also donates the same amount to local causes and, community organisations – so, Members can make a difference simply by choosing Co-op own branded products.
A soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches. This means that all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable through either local authority kerbside collections, or its in-store soft plastic recycling unit.
Young Scot cardholders and, students in Gourock who are TOTUM cardholders – the new name for NUS extra – also receive a 10% discount off groceries at Co-op.
Mike Grant, Co-op Store Manager, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store - we have had a great response, the new store has a great look and feel and the team is really enjoying welcoming the community into their new-look Co-op store. Our aim continues to be to operate at the heart of local life, and make a positive difference in the community. We have worked to develop the range, choice, products and added services to create a really compelling offer to serve our community, conveniently.”
