Co-op serves-up new store in Cardiff's Capital Quarter
04 October 2019
The Co-op has served-up a new food store in Cardiff's Capital Quarter today (Friday, 4 October) following a £700,000 investment creating 15 jobs.
Located in the Capital Quarter, the store runs on 100% renewable electricity, and is one of three to open in South Wales during the coming week, with other new Co-op food stores opening in Commercial Road, Machen and, West Cross, Swansea.
It provides a funding boost for local causes through its membership scheme, where Members receive a 5% reward when they purchase own-brand products, and Co-op gives a further 1% to local causes. In addition, Co-op offers a 10% discount off groceries to TOTUM cardholders (the new name for the NUS extra card) to support students during their studies.
The store opens between 7am-10pm daily and includes a bakery and Costa coffee, alongside a focus on fresh, healthy foods, food-to-go, award winning wines, hot food, meal ideas and essentials.
Giles Jenkins, Co-op Area Manager, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to make further significant investment in South Wales. Our aim is for stores to operate at the heart of local life – a community hub. The Co-op is committed to making a difference and creating value in its communities. We want the community to know that they can also become a co-owner of their Co-op, and that as a Member they will raise money for local causes every time they swipe their Membership card when buying own-brand products.”

The Co-op picked up the “Convenience Retailer of the Year” and “Food-to-go Retailer of the Year” titles at last month’s Retail Industry Awards.
There are offers and promotions in and around the store to mark its opening.
