Located in Littlestone Road, New Romney, the 2,250 sq ft convenience store has created 16 local jobs and includes an in-store bakery, Costa Coffee Express machine; customer car parking and a free ATM to provide access to cash in the community.

The store opens between 6am-10pm daily, and includes a focus on fresh, healthy produce; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; Fairtrade products, flowers, chilled beers and award-winning wines; ready meals, pizzas and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

A soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches - ensuring all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable through local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store recycling unit.

The click and collect of groceries is also available for added ease and convenience through Co-op’s online shop – shop.coop.co.uk

Gordon Hebdon, Co-op Store Manager, said: “The whole team is enjoying welcoming the community into their new Co-op, we have had a great response, and it is a proud day to have launched Co-op’s newest store. Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community and visitors to the area, conveniently.

"The store also includes a focus on delivering additional value, with member price savings across a wide range of everyday essentials so that the people who own our business, our member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives. Its Member-owners own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation, enjoying a wide number of benefits including member-only price savings across everyday essentials, and personalised offers via the Co-op Membership app.

Co-op shoppers in New Romney could also help donate £5,000 to a local community group and win £500 for themselves. ‘The Winners Share It All’ is a new nationwide competition designed to help boost Co-op’s existing support of thousands of local causes across the UK and give member-owners a chance to win prizes for themselves and their communities.
