Co-op, the UK's leading convenience food retailer, is today (10 April) launching ‘The Winners Share It All’ – a new monthly competition designed to give member-owners a chance to win prizes for themselves and their communities.

‘The Winners Share It All’ is the next step forward in Co-op’s commitment to ushering in a new era of Co-operation with greater value for member-owners and wider society, following a major £100m investment in convenience pricing over the last year, alongside the many other benefits of being a member-owner of the Co-op.

Any Co-op member-owner who spends a minimum of £5 in store or online, scans their card and has selected a Local Community Fund cause, will be automatically entered into a monthly prize draw. Shoppers can enter as many times as they want across the period and each £5 shop will activate one entry into the competition. Ten Co-op member-owners each month will win £500 worth of prizes for them and £5,000 for their selected local community cause. Non-members can sign up for just £1 via the Co-op App.

The major new initiative and nationwide giveaway will help boost Co-op’s commitment to delivering value for its member-owners and supporting local communities, is in line with its ambitions to substantially grow the number of members from 5 million to 8 million by 2030.

As a co-operative business, being a Co-op member-owner is more than just a having a loyalty card, it gives members the chance to directly benefit while also having a say in how their business is run. In addition to delivering additional value through member prices, membership also includes personalised offers every week, gamification and access to pre-sale tickets for artists at Co-op Live via the Co-op app.

Co-op members support their local community too, through Co-op’s community partnerships and the Local Community Fund, a fund which has donated over £107m to 36,000 causes since it began in 2016.

The Local Community Fund supports thousands of grassroots community projects and Co-op Members can choose which local cause they want to support. This means that just by shopping at Co-op as a member, everybody in your local community is a winner.

The new ‘The Winners Share It All’ initiative will see Co-op Local Community Fund causes receive a share of £500,000 to support projects that benefit Co-op member communities.

Kenyatte Nelson, Chief Membership and Customer Officer at Co-op, said: “Co-op membership is not a loyalty scheme but rather a different way of doing business, allowing us to provide value in ways than others can’t. We exist and are run for the benefit of our millions of member-owners.

“Our relentless focus on strengthening our financial position has enabled us to deliver increased value for our member-owners and continue our support for communities and we're thrilled to be launching ‘The Winners Share It All’ as we continue to offer meaningful value for our member-owners and an exciting way to provide even more support for our member’s local communities.

“The prize draw is open to all existing and new Co-op member-owners and the best part is that all people need to do is make sure they remember to swipe their card when they shop and have selected a cause. To become a member-owner, customers can sign up in-store or online for just £1 and start saving on their daily shop while supporting local groups in their area.”
