Co-op's popular Tavistock store re-opens after fire caused its temporary closure
05 December 2025
Tavistock’s Market Street Co-op relaunches, welcoming members and customers of the community back in store.
The Market Street store – which supports 20 local jobs - has been ‘transformed’ with a brand new look and layout, along with improved back of shop and warehousing all designed to enhance the shopping experience.
The popular store is the smaller of Co-op’s two stores in Tavistock and it re-opens almost six months after an electrical fire caused its closure.
The store includes Costa Coffee Express; bakery and increased focus on fresh and healthy products. This sits alongside food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade goods; pizzas; flowers; ready meals; party food for the festive season; award winning wines and beers and, everyday essentials.
The latest refrigeration not only cuts Co-op’s carbon footprint, but also enhances the store’s fresh, chilled and frozen range. Other services include National Lottery; payment services via PayPoint and, an ATM providing free access to cash in the community.
Self-service tills have been included to provide added ease and convenience, especially at busier times.
Parcel collection services are also available via Amazon.
Co-op is committed to backing British High Streets, and Barbara Worth, Co-op store manager, said: “We are very excited to re-open, customers and members of the community had been telling me that they cant wait for the store to re-open. We would really like to thank the community for all its support, and we are delighted to be back open and even better than ever with a brand new look and layout.”
Stacey Pavely, Co-op Area Operations Manager, added: “We’re delighted to invest in Tavistock, and proud to be part of local community life. The store has been completely transformed. We have a focus on being a hub locally for the community, delivering the quality, choice, value and added services which can be enjoyed by everyone - we're here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support the community.”
Member price savings create additional value for Co-op members who can save more with personalised offers, deals and promotions and, lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.
Soft plastic recycling is available in store, making it easier for shoppers to return and recycle materials that many local authorities do not yet accept in kerbside recycling, such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.
The online home delivery of groceries is available in Tavistock through Co-op’s larger Brook Street store - orders are picked fresh in the store, and delivered quickly and conveniently in the community.
Co-op is committed to backing British agriculture, with all of its fresh and frozen meat 100% British – including in its pies, ready meals and sandwiches.
The store is open between 7am-10pm daily.
Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back more than 180 years. Co-op exists to create value for its membership and communities, its 7m members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
