A Co-op worker from Cosby has been awarded the title of “Store Colleague of the Year”, beating hundreds of nominations for the prestigious award.

Samantha Peake, 37, who lives in Cosby and works as a Customer Team Member at the Co-op’s Main Street store, is “speechless” after being informed of the recognition that she has received.

As a community retailer, the Co-op has the ambition for all of its stores to be at the heart of local life. And, judges were looking for nominations who “bring being Co-op to life” and “spread a little Co-op magic wherever they go” - with Sam being described as an “inspiration” who “works tirelessly to build great relations between the store and its members, customers and the wider community.”

Last month, Sam was also given an award from the Cosby Parish Council, recognising outstanding fundraising achievements and contribution to the local community.

Sam said: “This came as such a surprise, I am delighted, and still speechless after hearing the news – it really hasn’t sunk in as yet! To have the opportunity to support the work of local community groups while working for the Co-op, and to see the difference that these groups make locally, really is very rewarding in itself – and to receive this recognition on top is amazing.”

Wayne Bambrough, Co-op Store Manager, added: “We are very proud of Sam – a real asset to the team and to the community. The Co-op operates around 2,600 stores UK-wide and to be picked as the winner in the first ever “Thank you for Being Co-op” award is a fantastic achievement – we are delighted, the recognition is well deserved, and I want to say a massive congratulations to Sam.”
