Community News: Football club partnership with Co-op still going strong with new strips
21 June 2016
The Seaham Athletics under 15s football team were delighted to receive a brand new set of football strips, courtesy of their long-time sponsor Co-op Funeralcare.
The team play in the local Russel Foster Division 3, and began three years ago when team Founder and Coach Martin Proud, recognized a real need within the community for the scheme. He said: “We were delighted when the Co-op supported us with their sponsorship, as this has become such an important part of the community for the youth of the area.
“We wouldn’t have been able to get the team to where they are now if it wasn’t for the Co-op. I know the boys are truly grateful, and wear their new strips with pride. I hope that this partnership is one that will continue long into the future.”
The Seaham Co-op Funeralcare team were keen to get involved with this project. Before it launched, there were a lack of activities to keep youngsters occupied and help them meet other children in the local community.
Jackie Hudson, Funeral Director at Seaham Co-op Funeralcare, commented: “When the team started there were only 15 boys. Now, three years on there are almost 60, and it makes a huge difference to the lives of the kids around Seaham.
“We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to contribute to the success of the team, and we’re so proud of the boys for all of their achievements.”
