Co op1

The Co-op is set to serve-up a new-look food store in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, following a £1M, six week, programme of works.

The new-look 10,000 sq. ft. Co-op food store in Monksford Street, has been transformed to better serve the community, and includes an in store bakery, Costa coffee dispenser, increased ranges of fresh, healthy foods, meal ideas, hot food, award winning wines, and non-food including party ranges, make-up and, essentials.

The store opens on Tuesday, 22, May, with an official launch with food sampling on Thursday, 25 May. It will also extend its opening hours to 6am-10pm Monday – Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sundays for added convenience. The store also brings a funding boost locally through the Co-op’s Membership scheme – Members receive a 5% reward on the purchase of own-brand products and services, with the Co-op donating a further 1% to local good causes.

Good causes currently benefitting include: the Trinity Church Community Activities; 1st Kidwelly Guides and, the 1st Kidwelly Scout Group.

Anthony Thorne, Co-op Store Manager, said: “We are delighted to have undertaken such a significant investment in Kidwelly, transforming the store to better serve its community and meeting the needs of our members and customers, when and where they need it. We are really looking forward to welcoming members and customers back into their new-look Co-op. We are proud to be part of the community, and our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub, a real asset locally.

Ed Howe, Co-op Regional Manager, added: “We are investing in our people, stores, products, prices and communities – our ambition is for our stores to be at the heart of local life, bringing communities together and offering great quality products when and where our members and customers need them.

“We also want customers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op. And, that we are also giving back to the community. Our members make a difference locally, simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they raise much needed funding for organisations in the area who contribute to improving local life.”

The retailer – which won the title of Convenience Retailer of the Year at last year’s Retail Industry Awards – last month unveiled a £50M price investment programme to cut the cost of everyday essentials including fruit, vegetables, bread, fresh meat and ready meals, as well as household brand names.

There are offers and promotions in and around the new-look store to mark its launch. And, students in Carmarthenshire holding a NUS extra card also receive a 10% discount off their groceries at the Co-op to support them during their studies.
