  • Yet more than one in three (36%) who took out life insurance chose to do so in order to protect their loved ones financially should the worst happen.

Co-op members can receive a welcome gift worth £140 when they take out either life insurance or over-50s life insurance with Co-op Insurance.

Exclusive to Co-op membership card holders, the offer is available between 1st September and 30th November, with members able to choose life insurance or over 50 life insurance policies from as little as £5 per month. **

New customers who are not already Co-op members can join for just £1, with non-members still able to receive a welcome gift worth £100 when they take out a policy.

Research commissioned by the member-owned business found that the majority (54%) of Brits don’t have a life insurance policy in place, with almost one in six (16%) of those without cover stating they’d never thought about it, while one in 10 (10%) believe that they’re too young to take out a policy.

However, of those who took out life insurance, more than one in three (36%) chose to do so in order to protect their loved ones financially should the worst happen, while almost a quarter (24%) were prompted to do so when buying their home.

The findings also highlight the benefits of having a policy in place, with almost one in four (24%) who have received a life insurance or critical illness payout stated that the most important impact was that it supported them financially while they or their partner were off work.

In addition, more than one in five (21%) who received a life insurance or critical illness payout stated that the biggest impact of the payout was being able to pay off their debts, while a further fifth (20%) said that it was enabling them to pay off the mortgage.

Chris Twigg, Director of Insurance said: *"We’re pleased to be offering Co-op members £140 when they take out a life insurance with us. Our research show that many people don’t have life insurance, but having this cover in place can provide invaluable financial protection should the worst happen.

“Even if you feel too young or think you don’t have much to leave, planning ahead and protecting your future is always worthwhile.” *
