The leading convenience retailer predicts sales of 89 punnets per minute across their British strawberries during the royal celebrations

This May (4 May) Co-op will bring summertime joy to Brits as it becomes the first retailer to announce nationwide move to 100% British strawberries across its 2,400 stores. A move anticipated to drive bumper sales during the Coronation celebrations.

Just in time for the Coronation Bank Holiday, the convenience store will provide the nation with refreshing homegrown strawberries to celebrate the milestone moment, with insider forecasters predicting sales of 500,000 punnets in the week leading up to, and throughout royal weekend.

Saturday 6th May is set to be marked as one of the most prominent moments in recent history, with all eyes on the UK for the Coronation of King Charles III. With many Brits celebrating the occasion with street parties, picnics and family celebrations, Co-op is preparing to sell 89 punnets of strawberries a minute - an 25% uplift compared the same time last year.

The British strawberry punnets, grown in Hereford and Kent, will be available at £2.25 a punnet.

Mark Cloudy, Co-op Buyer, said: “We’re all looking forward to celebrating with friends and family over the Coronation weekend and what better way than with a British classic of strawberries and cream. We’re devoted to supporting British growers and are thrilled to be offering British strawberries to our customers in time for the Coronation. The first British strawberries to hit the shelves reminds the nation that the highly anticipated summer is on its way and what better way to celebrate the occasion.”
