Savvy students "bag" savings at Co-op
31 August 2018
Savvy students can “bag” a saving at the Co-op with NUS extra.
The Co-op and NUS extra are marking the fifth anniversary of their partnership, and NUS extra cardholders are again set to receive a 10% discount off their groceries at Co-op food stores UK-wide to support them during their studies.
Students who are Members of the Co-op also gain a further 5% reward on purchases of own-branded products and services – with the Co-op donating an additional 1% to local causes.
It is the NUS extra discount card’s only partnership with a national food store, providing daily savings conveniently whether at home, or at University.
Ali Jones, Co-op’s Customer Director, said:
“Our aim is to be at the heart of local life, connecting communities and bringing people together. With many students living away from home for the first time our partnership with NUS extra supports them at a key time – eating together is an essential part of the social experience, and plays a vital part in supporting the health and wellbeing of students.”
Ali Milani, Vice-President (Union Development) at NUS, said:
“The cost of living can be a concern for many students and this welcome move helps to reduce the burden on their budgets. On top of the 10% NUS extra discount, the Co-op’s Membership scheme not only provides a further 5% personal reward, but gives 1% to causes who make a difference in communities - something that this generation of student cares deeply about.”
The Co-op – which won the title of Convenience Retailer of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards – has this year unveiled a £50M price investment programme to cut the cost of everyday essentials including fruit, vegetables, bread, fresh meat and ready meals, as well as household brand names.
NUS extra recently re-launched as TOTUM. From early September 2018 students will be able to download the TOTUM app for free. As well as retaining all the great savings enjoyed by so many, the new student features include personalisation and localisation to put the partnership at the heart of the Student community.
