13 December 2024
Tynemouth’s Co-op relaunches (Friday, 13 December) following a 16-week programme of works and improvements to ‘enhance and transform’ the store for the community.
Located in Front Street, Tynemouth, the 2,100 sq ft store supports around 20 local jobs and serves-up an enhanced focus on fresh, healthy and chilled food; along with a Costa Coffee Express machine; meal ideas and everyday essentials; bakery, food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade products; award winning wines; ready meals; pizzas; vegan and plant-based products.
The quick and convenient online home delivery of groceries is provided by Just Eat and Uber Eats – with orders picked fresh in the local store and delivered in the community. Parcel collection services are available via Amazon, and payment services are provided by PayPoint.
Self-service tills have been added for extra ease and speed, especially as seasonally busier times. With works also undertaken to enhance the back-of-shop warehouse and storage to enhance availability and choice to better serve the community.
Co-op is owned by its members who enjoy a wide range of benefits including member-only price savings across everyday essentials, and personalised offers via the Co-op Membership App.
Mark Niven Co-op’s Tynemouth Store Manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to see our Tynemouth store transformed – the investment in the community’s Co-op has created a great new look store with improvements back of shop also designed to enhance the shopping experience for customers. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice, added services and value, which can be enjoyed by everyone. Our temporary pop-up shop proved popular during the works, and we would like to thank the community for its support. We are now really looking forward to welcoming our members and customers back into their Co-op now that the works have concluded - we’re here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support our community.”
A soft plastic recycle unit is available in store to enable the community to return ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches - ensuring all Co-op’s own food packaging is recyclable through either local authority kerbside collections, or the in-store soft plastic recycling.
Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back 180 years.
