A loyal and keen member and supporter of the Co-op, its ethical values and member status, I would be a positive and hardworking member of the Council. Community support, British farming, the environment and Fairtrade are all high on my agenda. An active member of the local community, your support would be greatly appreciated and put to good use. Additional information
The Co-op is based on values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity and solidarity. The Co-op believes in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. This sets the Co-op aside from other supermarkets and retailers and is why I am keen to become a member of the Council and be proactively involved.
I am an active member of my local community known by many residents. I enjoy supporting the local community and would welcome the opportunity to support the local and wider community, through co-op community support projects. Co-op members have helped to raise £20 million for local causes and I would love to be more involved with this.
British food, farming and agriculture are very evident in the co-op supermarkets with red tractor being the minimum standard. I am a firm believer in good husbandry and welcome the opportunity to support British farmers. This has the added bonus of reducing food miles and protecting the environment.
The environment and climate change, is an issue, being taken on board by the Co-op. 97% of wood and paper recently sold was Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. David Attenborough’s Blue Planet series has highlighted, the real and harmful effects, of single use plastic. I would welcome the opportunity to tackle such environmental issues, with the Co-op.
Fairtrade is synonymous with the Co-op. Once unheard of now familiar to many. Tea, coffee, cocoa, sugar, bananas, wine and flowers all familiar Fairtrade products sold. I would be delighted to support and enhance the Fairtrade product range with the co-op.
As a Co-op member you are able to have a say in how the Co-op is run. Further detail on eligibility to vote can be found using the below link. I do hope you have found the time to read my reasons for wanting to be an elected and active member of the Council.
