Skills and experience
I recently retired from 30 years in Banking in the UK and in Asia. I am interested in promoting and advancing ethical retailing, encouraging recycling, the replacement of single use plastics and bottle recycling. I believe the Co-op can lead the way in changing retail behaviour with its social and ethical charter, and would like to help that development by becoming a Council Member. I hope to be able to make that difference.
Additional information
In today's society the Co-op is singularly placed to lead ecologically and ethically sound retailing in the 21st century. As a throwaway society, consumers are more aware of the damage done by single use plastics and drinks bottles to the environment and need help to remedy this.
If elected I would work on reminding the Co-op of its already leading stand on Fairtrade and how as a major UK retailer it can work with suppliers to reduce the use of plastics and encourage recycling. I am especially enthusiastic about the proposed bottle deposit scheme which could drastically cut ocean and landfill waste as I have seen it prosper in Norway. Local communities already benefit from members contributions and I would, if elected, like to help with dialogue with area food banks to advise on how to maximise their inventories. I hope with your vote to be able to make a difference.
